Cottage Weekend Break, Baby Moon!
A while back I planned a cottage weekend break with my husband, to give us a chance to enjoy ourselves before our bundle of joy arrives! To make our cottage weekend break fun and memorable, we decided to invite our cousins and their kids too!
As usual I turned to google to try and find a big house which sleeps 23 adults and 5 kids! (Yes, I do have a big family) I also wanted us to kick back and enjoy countryside by having in-house caterers to cook for us. After enquiring a few cottages I came across a beautiful country house in Mitcheldean, towards Gloucester.
As I was organising a cottage weekend break with a big group, I had to consider everyone’s dietary requirements, liaise with Lizz (the owner), allocate people in the rooms and organise a family activity. Everyone voted for chocolate making class which sounded amazing, the kids will definitely enjoy it the most! Lizz was really flexible with the catering and answered many of my endless questions.
Packing My Weekend Bag
I packed my weekend bag the night before making sure I remembered everything, especially my trainers. I wanted to take the opportunity to go for nature walks in countryside. As I was turning six months that weekend I wanted to take a few photos as I am documenting my pregnancy journey every month. Thought the cottage surroundings would be a great backdrop!
Road Trip to Mitcheldean
We set off from London at 1.30pm, I picked up my sisters on the way. We estimated 3 hours to get there, but being pregnant meant it was going to take a bit longer as it meant a lot of stop offs to the bathroom!
We finally arrived at the cottage at 6pm, a few of my other cousins had arrived making themselves at home. The food was laid out nicely for us to help ourselves. There was a lovely selection of breads, roast potatoes, vegetarian/lamb tagine and tomato pasta for the kids. We sat altogether on the huge table laughing and talking. After our dinner we made our way down to the living area and snuggled up to the fire. For entertainment we played Pictionary which was great fun, especially watching the boys draw. I headed up early as I was feeling very tired especially after the long journey, I was ready to hit the sack!
We had an early wake up call in the morning from the kids running around! That’s when I said to my husband, “that will be our little one next year!” We headed straight to main dining area where most people were having breakfasts and enjoying the cereals and yogurts which were provided. My cousin’s husband was pretty keen to gather the kids and their parents for a trek in the woods.
Unfortunately I didn’t go on the walk and stayed back enjoying the cottage and admiring all the details. I love the features of the cottage and how each rooms are different. A lot of thought went into decorating and accessorising to give that cottage feel. Outside there’s a beautiful garden area, with a hot tub! I did manage to have a short wonder around the local area, Mitcheldene is very peaceful and picturesque, big change from London. Its nice to escape the busy life in London and enjoy cottage weekend breaks were you can enjoy the nature and breathe in the fresh air.
After the kids and their parents came back from their walks, we were all hungry and ready for our tapas which was beautifully set up in the conservatory. A florist came in especially to decorate the table which looked absolutely stunning. I could tell everyone enjoyed the food as there was silence for at least 10 mins!
Chocolate Making Class by Harts Barn Cookery
Chocolate making class, what we have all been waiting for! We all rushed up to the main dinning area where we were welcomed by the lovely owner of Harts Barn Cookery. She already had melted chocolate in bowls and kept various types of chocolates in plates for us to taste during her introduction. Our eyes were fixated on the melted chocolate, the kids couldn’t wait to dip their fingers in! The teacher explained to us about the different types of chocolate and then demonstrated how you can make your own chocolates. We were all given a parchment baking sheet and off we went…
Everyone had so much fun and it was nice that we were able to take the chocolates home with us as a memory.
Who doesn’t like a good old barbecue? Out of the catered meals by Mill End Mitcheldean, I was looking forward to the Barbecue. Lizz and her staff prepared sausages, burgers, veggie kebabs, chicken wings and salads. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and were so full by the end of it. After that we were ready to lounge in our pj’s and get cosy in the living room to watch a movie. I was really impressed by Lizz and her staff as they were so friendly and flexible.
Sunday Morning – Last Day at Mill End Mitcheldene
Good things always come to an end! To keep us going on our journey back to London, we were treated to a Full English Breakfast.
Bags all packed and loaded in our cars. We couldn’t leave without a group photo with 23 Adults and 5 Kids. What a fantastic and memorable weekend we all had!
